Biography
Fahad Rashid is a Materials Science and Engineering undergraduate at the Institute of Space Technology (IST), Islamabad, with strong research experience in biomaterials, hydrogels, and 3D-printed biomedical scaffolds. He has worked as a Research Assistant in a bioengineering research environment, focusing on hydrogel synthesis, 3D printing, electrophoretic deposition, and material characterization. He has demonstrated strong leadership as President of the ACS IST Student Chapter, leading the chapter to win prestigious international awards.
Research Interests
My research interests lie in the field of biomaterials and biomedical engineering, with a particular focus on the design, synthesis, and characterization of polymer-based hydrogels and biopolymer scaffolds for wound healing and tissue engineering applications. I am especially interested in 3D printing and additive manufacturing of hydrogels, enabling precise control over scaffold architecture and functional performance. My work involves PVA, gellan gum, carboxymethyl cellulose, phytagel, and natural bioactive agents such as linalool and fenugreek extracts to develop biocompatible and antimicrobial wound dressing materials. I also have strong interest in mechanical, thermal, and physicochemical characterization, as well as computational modeling and simulation using ANSYS APDL to predict real-world biomedical performance. Additionally, I am keen on translating laboratory-scale biomaterials research into clinically relevant solutions for infectious burn wounds and regenerative medicine.
